The MC explains how Kanye West came to direct his video for “Best I Ever Had.”
Drake Is Glad He’s ‘Delivering’ With Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige Collabos
Drake can confirm that at least one of his major collaborations will be a single soon. He said to look for his record with Mary J. Blige to get a full push soon. Funny note on that record: Besides blowing her a kiss at the Summer Jam concert a couple of weeks ago and her catching it, Drizzy still hasn’t formally met the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.
Everybody has been talking about a Jay-Z record featuring Drake that’s supposed to be a big summer single leading into the Blueprint 3’s release on September 11. Well, Drake said he did work with Jay, but Hov has not yet confirmed that their studio tag-team will be a single.
“The Mary thing was set up as a single,” the Young Money White Knight said on the set of the “Best I Ever Had” video in Brooklyn a few days ago. “The Jay thing, I don’t now how official that is. I just read that on the Internet. But it’s cool. I’m glad the work I’m doing is something that people are even considering putting out as a single. ‘Cause singles, you have to be confident in those songs when you’re talking about singles. It’s great. I’m glad that I’m delivering for people.”

Drake vs Kardiinal Offishall? Not sure how old this is but was just released online
A recently released unauthorized album featuring Canadian rapper Drake will be the focus of a new lawsuit the entertainer plans to file.
Drake is planning a lawsuit against Canadian Money Entertainment over the release, titled The Girls Love Drake.
The unauthorized album, which was released May 28 by Canadian Money, includes songs from Drake’s mixtape, So Far Gone, as well as other tracks.
It was distributed by the Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA) on iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon.
According to Drake’s manager, Al Branch, Drake or his affiliated label Young Money is associated with the album.
Currently, the rapper is at the center of a major bidding war between three major record labels.
At the heart of the suit are uncleared samples for So Far Gone and two other mixtapes.
Drake’s camp has gone on record saying it did not authorize The Girls Love Drake.
A chief concern for Branch involves Young Money or October’s Own, Drake’s label, potentially being sued because the mixtape samples have not been legally cleared for use.
Artists sampled for the mixtapes include rapper David Banner as well as singers Goapele and Colin Munroe.

DJ Skee took to Twitter to say that the first official single from Blueprint 3 will be “On That,” featuring Drake. Jay wasn’t asked and didn’t speak on that song, but he did talk a little bit about the album’s feel.
“The vibe I’m on is, stripping it down and bringing it back classic,” Jay said. “I hear people, I gotta get back in my square and really let people know what time it is really quick.”

Very Hot Tracks!! Check ‘em out!!
This is what Drake-mania looks like up close: It’s just after 10 p.m. on a balmy Tuesday night in May and downstairs inside the cramped confines of New York venue SOBs, Drake is receiving what feels like a hero’s welcome. Kanye West, Ryan Leslie, Talib Kweli, the Alchemist and Bun B (who’ll later join the upstart MC onstage) are all here to acknowledge the much-hyped rapper before his performance, Drake’s last before he’ll officially begin work on his debut LP, Thank Me Later.
Upstairs it’s more of the same. The rap media cognoscenti are all present, as are the executives who have been bidding for Drake’s services, including a high-ranking Universal/Motown chief and Warner Music Group Chairman Lyor Cohen. And don’t forget the girls. Soon-to-be shrieking girls are lining up just in front of the stage, ready to scream at a moment’s notice. It’s hard to believe it, but tonight’s performance is a part of the New York radio station Hot 97’s Who’s Next showcase. It’s not even a proper Drake concert.
“I’m a new artist, by the way,” a cheeky Drake told the packed house when he finally made it onto the stage in designer duds, a striped Commes des Garçons shirt and crimson Nike Air Jordans. “I don’t know if you can tell by this show.”
Just one month earlier, Drake (born Aubrey Graham), was another buzzed-about rapper on hip-hop blogs, in the class of Asher Roth and Kid Cudi, but not among the newcomers picked for XXL magazine’s “Freshman 10″ cover last December. His mixtape, So Far Gone, released in February of this year was critically lauded for its mix of melody and deft lyricism. But some derided the work as a knockoff of West’s 808s & Heartbreak due to Drake’s crooning and female-flavored numbers.
But then the Toronto rapper blitzed through the Big Apple last month — performing at a local college, making a club appearance with Cam’ron and doing interviews on the radio with Power 105’s DJ Clue and Hot 97’s Angie Martinez. He also freestyled on Funkmaster Flex’s show: “I’m in the Aston doing donuts/I will kill the game and never send it my condolensce/ taught to never love the chick and only love the moments/ New York City I can tell the people want it,” he furiously spit over the instrumental to Jay-Z’s “You, Me, Him, And Her.”
“That was probably, to be honest, the first time in a long time I was nervous,” Drake says now, recalling the moment. “I don’t get nervous for much. But it was like the first time I was like, ‘Wow, this is a legendary moment and a legendary opportunity that I’m being given.’ It was crazy to be standing in the Hot 97 radio room looking at Flex in the booth. Doing what I seen him do for so many years, for some of the greatest artist to ever be in this business. And to think it was just me there and it was all happening for me, it was definitely … Surreal is the word.”

‘I just wanna make music people enjoy,’ MC says of Thank Me Later. All this hype and he only just started working on his own album. Drake has taken full advantage of the buzz he’s gotten off of his So Far Gone mixtape, touring and writing songs for stars like Rihanna.
But as excited as he is about being in the studio with Rih Rih, Drake is very focused on his own solo LP, Thank Me Later. He still hopes Kanye West will be a part of it, along with Lil Wayne and, hopefully, Jay-Z.
“Everybody is looking for this one joint with me and Jay, so that needs to happen,” Drake said. “My goal at this point is to keep making that organic music. I don’t wanna feel pressure now that I have a single and music that’s hot,” he added. “I don’t wanna be pressured … that, ‘Oh I have to have radio hits.’ I just wanna make music people enjoy.”
As Drake continues to impress fans and peers, he says that one guy he looks to for advice is none other than the head of his Young Money clique, Lil Wayne.
“Wayne is another one that — rap-wise, verse-wise — was my favorite,” he said. “And to be under his wing, to be able to interact with him on a daily basis and talk to him and get information from him — I’m in a blessed position. I have the greatest mentors, the greatest teachers in the world. They all have gradually started to embrace me more and more, so it’s a great feeling.”
