Jay likened the Thank Me Later single to a girl who isn’t the cutest but is still sexy.

Drake’s breakout mixtape, So Far Gone, set the bar pretty high for his upcoming debut album, Thank Me Later. His first offering, “Over,” was intensely debated, but DJs co-signed the single almost immediately.

One critic, however, wasn’t as quick to deliver praise. According to Drake, Jay-Z had to warm up to the record.

“I got a funny e-mail today from Jay-Z about ['Over'],” Drake said during a conference call for DJs.

The Toronto lyricist said Jay offered an analogy to describe the way the track grew on him. He compared the song to “the girl you see at the club, she’s not the cutest,” Drake explained. “But then you speak to her and realize that she’s one of the sexiest women of all time.”

Drake premiered his follow-up to “Over” early Thursday morning (April 29), the Kanye West-produced “Find Your Love.” He recently shot a video for the track in Jamaica, and images from the set have leaked online. Two other Thank Me Later tracks, “Fireworks” and “Shut It Down” (featuring The-Dream), have sprung up online.

Drake also revealed during the call that he might have a bonus track on his debut album featuring Lupe Fiasco and upstart MC J. Cole. “I think that would be a special moment for hip-hop fans,” he said, before adding a joke. “For people that are disappointed when I drop songs like ‘Find Your Love,’ I think they would appreciate that. Hopefully they’re both willing.”

Jay-Z and Drake Collab on ‘Thank Me Later’!

by admin on December 30, 2009

Toronto rapper Drake has long discussed his dream of featuring Jay-Z on his debut album, and now, months later, he’s made it a reality.

“Everybody is looking for this one joint with me and Jay, so that needs to happen,” Drake told MTV in June. “My goal at this point is to keep making that organic music. I don’t wanna feel pressure now that I have a single and music that’s hot.”

Drake sang the hook on ‘Off That,’ on ‘Blueprint 3,’ but, to the disappointment of his many fans, did not get to rap with Jay until now. The new song was produced by Tone Mason, and co-produced by frequent Drake collaborator Noah “40” Shebib, and will appear on Drake’s highly anticipated ‘Thank Me Later.’

“When I heard that beat, the drums that they had come up with, it was like, ‘Man, this is a moment. This sounds like where I’m at in my life,” Drake said. “So, we took it and 40 did what he does to pieces of music that I see potential in — he took it to the next spot. Jay-Z’s on it. The song is phenomenal. It’s done now.”

Thank Me Later‘ features the biggest names in hip-hop, including Lil Wayne and Kanye West, and is said to be scheduled for a March 2010 release, though it has already been delayed.

deliverDrake Is Glad He’s ‘Delivering’ With Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige Collabos

Drake can confirm that at least one of his major collaborations will be a single soon. He said to look for his record with Mary J. Blige to get a full push soon. Funny note on that record: Besides blowing her a kiss at the Summer Jam concert a couple of weeks ago and her catching it, Drizzy still hasn’t formally met the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.

Everybody has been talking about a Jay-Z record featuring Drake that’s supposed to be a big summer single leading into the Blueprint 3′s release on September 11. Well, Drake said he did work with Jay, but Hov has not yet confirmed that their studio tag-team will be a single.

“The Mary thing was set up as a single,” the Young Money White Knight said on the set of the “Best I Ever Had” video in Brooklyn a few days ago. “The Jay thing, I don’t now how official that is. I just read that on the Internet. But it’s cool. I’m glad the work I’m doing is something that people are even considering putting out as a single. ‘Cause singles, you have to be confident in those songs when you’re talking about singles. It’s great. I’m glad that I’m delivering for people.”
